Bogons in the World

Bogon: a unit of bogosity - something that of itself is bogus - someone who issues bogus crap. Bogons need to be stomped on and removed from anywhere near polite society. There are other definitions of the word BOGON at Wikipedia and other places but I like the #5 at this one and of course the definition of BOGOSITY

A friend of mine has had this domain for quite a number of years. In fact he registered it back in 1995 as his personal domain when he was working with me at our first ISP. Lately he's been completely disgusted with the amount of spam he's been getting to his address on it, and has switched to one of the more "traditional" email providers, one who can afford to put the resources into spam filtering necessary these days.

We were talking about this the other day and, since he was thinking about giving up the domain - and I personally like the name - I thought it would be an interesting exercise to see if we could do something with it that might make keeping it worth while. This web site and a bunch of things that will be added in the background are the result.

What is the purpose of this site?

There are lots of sites "out there" that are aimed at the internet technical crowd that deal with spam and phishing and other crap from the bogons of the world. This site is not really for them. They may visit from time to time, and maybe a piece of the site might evolve in their direction, but by and large the site is aimed at the general public; especially those of you who have not grown up with a computer in your hands - you know - us old pharts :)

Keep coming back as we'll be adding all manner of interesting tidbits - and join the forum and tell us and others about your experiences with bogons.

General News

My long-time friend, David Ingram (aka the Taxman), and I have been doing a web-TV show most Wednesday evenings for much of the past year. Last night we were missing a guest. I stepped in and we got to talking about this web site, even though at the time (and still) it really isn't 100% set up.

In keeping with my personal policy of making sure people know that I, personally, am behind what I do on the internet, I bring you this interview and a little bit of an insight into why this site is here. I'm very much in favour of building and relying upon reputation on the internet. Many people try to hide behind aliases and multiple layers of obfuscations and redirections so that finding out who actually is benefiting or behind some sites is simply not possible. Not me - My name is here and my contact information (soon) will be on this site -and you can call me up if you think something I'm doing is wrong (or better yet, right).

Here's to a long and fruitful life to bogon.com - it will stand or fall based upon your input as much as mine. Please contribute your opinions and your experiences so that others may learn. Let's all learn.
